How to choose seeds for the subtropical north
Structure over everything. Read the listing for words like open, airy, sativa-dominant, or "tropical lineage"; avoid anything described as dense, rock-hard or compact unless it's an autoflower you'll harvest before February. Then decide your timing strategy. A standard mid-October plant-out works if the strain resists mould and finishes by mid-March; alternatively, grow autoflowers for a December harvest, before humidity peaks, and run a second batch to finish in a drier April window. Sativa-dominant strains in this range grow very tall in a long northern season — check expected height against your space and be prepared to train them low.
