Panama Red is a feminised, 100% sativa selection based on Panamanian landrace genetics. Some modern expressions may also show Colombian Gold ancestry, so appearance and growth patterns can vary between plants. Its cannabinoid profile is typically reported at around 10–18% THC with up to 0.5% CBD, though actual levels depend on the individual plant and growing conditions.

The aromatic profile combines lemon, spice, herbs and earthy depth. Myrcene, limonene and caryophyllene may contribute to its bright citrus opening and warm, savoury finish. Experiences are subjective, but Panama Red is often described as uplifting, happy and creative, followed by a more relaxed feeling. Intensity and character can differ from person to person.

Growing in New Zealand

This is an expert-level cultivar with vigorous sativa growth and a comparatively long flowering window. New Zealand growers will need to account for regional differences in temperature, rainfall, wind and daylight. It generally favours hot, dry or temperate conditions, with good airflow and plenty of direct light.

Indoor

Indoors, Panama Red can reach approximately 160 cm and may stretch considerably after flowering begins. Early canopy planning, branch support and height management are useful in compact rooms. Strong air movement and sensible spacing help manage humidity and reduce mould risk around dense flower sites.

Flowering usually takes about 8–12 weeks. The longer end of that range is possible with more traditional landrace-leaning plants. Under well-managed conditions, indoor yield may reach approximately 450 g/m², but this figure is an estimate rather than an assured outcome. Outdoor

Outdoors, plants may grow to approximately 200 cm, making a sunny, sheltered position valuable. Panama Red performs best where autumn remains warm and relatively dry. In wetter districts, generous spacing, airflow and regular checks after rain can reduce the risk of mould. Support may also be helpful as branches gain weight.

Potential outdoor yield is up to approximately 600 g per plant in favourable conditions. Container size, soil structure, sunlight, weather and plant care all influence final performance. Its extended flowering period makes site selection especially important in regions where cool, damp autumn weather arrives early.

Harvest

In New Zealand, the usual outdoor harvest season is March–May. Panama Red may finish toward the later part of this window because of its sativa heritage. Rather than relying only on elapsed weeks, assess flower development and overall plant maturity. Indoor harvest timing commonly follows the stated 8–12-week flowering range, with variation expected across individual plants and environments.
