Growing in New Zealand

Crystal is rated as an intermediate option. It may suit New Zealand growers who can monitor humidity, nutrition and canopy shape throughout the season. For outdoor plants, spring planting generally falls between September and November. Choose the warmer part of this window in cool or short-season locations, and provide shelter from persistent rain and strong winds.

This hybrid is associated with temperate climates and can also fit cooler areas with shorter summers. Good airflow is particularly important as flowers gain weight. Regular inspection, sensible spacing and protection from prolonged moisture help reduce the risk of mould. Expression may vary with regional conditions, phenotype and cultivation method.

Indoor

Indoors, Crystal can reach up to 160 cm. Training and an even canopy can help manage its height while allowing light to reach productive side branches. Allow room for airflow around the foliage and avoid abrupt changes in environmental conditions.

Harvest

New Zealand outdoor harvest typically falls between March and May. Crystal’s 8–10 week flowering period means timing will depend on when flowering begins, local temperatures and the selected phenotype. Watch flower maturity rather than relying only on calendar dates, and consider incoming autumn rain when planning the final cut.

Once ready, handle branches carefully and dry them in a dark, ventilated space with stable conditions. A gradual drying period can help retain Crystal’s favourite sweet, pine, diesel and earthy qualities while limiting excess moisture.
