Growing in New Zealand

This beginner-friendly cultivar is suited to temperate regions and hot, dry conditions. In New Zealand, outdoor planting generally takes place during spring, from September to November, once frost risk has eased and daylight hours are increasing. Choose a sunny position with freely draining soil and steady airflow. In humid districts, allowing space between plants and sheltering flowers from prolonged rain may reduce the risk of mould.

As photoperiod genetics respond to changing daylight, timing differs between Northland, central regions and the cooler South Island. Local temperature, exposure and rainfall should guide planting decisions. Growers are responsible for checking and following all applicable local requirements.

The cultivar can develop attractive purple colour as nights cool. Support heavily laden branches and maintain airflow through the canopy, particularly in regions with wet autumn weather. Regular observation helps identify environmental stress early.

Harvest

In New Zealand, outdoor harvest commonly falls between March and May. Exact readiness depends on latitude, phenotype and seasonal conditions rather than the calendar alone. Watch flower development and resin maturity, while also considering approaching rain or frost. Indoor growers can work from the 7–8 week flowering estimate, then assess each plant individually.
