Growing in New Zealand

This beginner-friendly autoflower can suit temperate regions, hot and dry areas, and cooler locations with short summers. Autoflower genetics move into bloom according to age rather than changing daylight hours, making timing relatively straightforward. Even so, stable conditions, good airflow and careful watering remain important.

For an outdoor New Zealand cycle, spring planting generally falls between September and November. Select the warmest practical window for your region and avoid exposing young plants to late frosts, prolonged rain or waterlogged soil. A sunny, sheltered position can support steady development, while spacing and airflow help reduce mould risk during humid weather.

Indoor

Indoors, plants may reach up to 90 cm. A light, well-draining medium and a final container with adequate root room can minimise unnecessary disruption during the short vegetative phase. Keep light, temperature and moisture levels consistent, as autoflowers have limited time to recover from major stress.

In wetter districts, shelter from extended rain and inspect dense flowers regularly. In hot, dry districts, mulch and measured watering can help maintain even root-zone moisture. Avoid repeatedly soaking the medium, as autoflower roots generally favour a balance of moisture and oxygen.

Harvest

For spring-started plants, New Zealand’s main harvest season is March to May, although fast autoflower cycles may finish earlier depending on sowing date and local conditions. Use flower maturity rather than the calendar alone: observe trichome colour, flower density and fading foliage. Harvest timing can influence the final aroma, colour and subjective character, so regular observation is the most reliable guide.
